Visual Arts Mission
The arts are vital to cultural expression; they enrich our lives while challenging and broadening our views of the world. The Fine Arts staff fosters an educational environment that encourages creativity, individual growth, and meaningful expression. We provide interdisciplinary approaches to the practice of art and the study of visual culture. At WHS students have the opportunity to put their ideas into form while becoming visually literate, and career minded.
Dramas Mission
West High School is known not only for the outstanding education students receive but also for extra-curricular activities that guide
students in developing skills outside the classroom. Using this model, the W.H.S. Theatre program seeks to meet the following goals:
- Provide students with opportunities for performance and technical theater that challenge and extend their creativity.
- Make connections between theater, other classroom content areas, and life experiences.
- Encourage a lifelong appreciation for theater arts.
Choirs Mission
The West High School Choir is devoted to the cultivation of the art of choral and vocal music in the lives of its students and in the broader community: to teach techniques of musical expression by providing a sequential developmental music curriculum which allows each student an opportunity to build musical skills and understand through a wide variety of musical experiences. Through choral/vocal music, we affirm the mission of Kern High School District, to graduate individuals prepared to function with integrity in a rapidly changing world.
Bands Mission
The West High School Band is committed to developing lifelong passions for musical excellence in an environment that fosters integrity and excitement while connecting our band family to the community through performance and positive learning experiences.
