Open Enrollment is your opportunity to apply for admission to a high school other than the one serving your student based on your residential address. Parents or guardians of students entering the 9th grade in Fall 2017 must apply in person at the Kern High School District Office. If the parent/guardian is unable to attend, another adult may act as your designee. A proxy application for the designated adult may be picked up at the Kern High School District Office after January 9, 2017.
Open Enrollment applications are processed randomly. There is no advantage in arriving prior to the scheduled times. You do not need to take part in Open Enrollment if you would like your student to attend the school serving your regular attendance area.
Incoming 9th graders are ineligible for athletic competition for one year. Students who receive Open Enrollment are permitted to practice with teams, but not participate in games, scrimmages or events.
Monday, March 13, 2017 through Friday, April 7, 2017
Returning students entering grades 10, 11 or 12 will be able to apply by mail. Applications will be available at all school sites. All applications must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017.
Present 9th, 10th, 11th graders who are granted their first open enrollment are given one year of athletic ineligibility. Students who receive Open Enrollment are permitted to practice with teams, but not participate in games, scrimmages or events. CIF transfer regulations also may apply. A second open enrollment by a student would result in indefinite athletic ineligibility.
Complete details about Open Enrollment and information about each school is available at the campus nearest you or at the District Office. If you have questions about your attendance area, call 827-2822. If you have other questions about the Open Enrollment Process, call or 827-2822.
