Floral Design 1 CP

Duration: 1 year

A-G Designation: F (or G if F has already been satisfied)

Prerequisite: Enrollment in a previous Agriculture Course or approval from the Agriculture Teacher


Floral Design 1 is a College Prep Course that satisfies Area F (Fine Arts) or Area G (Elective) in the UC A-G requirements, as well as Career Technical Education. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the world of Floriculture and Floral Design to assist in preparing students for any career path by giving them vital workplace skills. Students will gain a deep understanding of art, color schemes, design, and mechanical techniques used in the floral industry through hands-on basic floral design skills. Students will utilize the basic elements of art and principles of design to create eye-appealing floral arrangements for several different occasions, including holidays, awards banquets, and wearable flowers. Students will have the opportunity to build their leadership skills through public speaking, resume and cover letter building, leadership position opportunities, conferences and conventions that highlight leadership, along with opportunities to go on field trips to colleges and agriculture industry companies through their involvement with the FFA Organization. Students enrolled in this course will be required to participate in FFA activities and a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project.

Floral Design 2 CP

Duration: 1 year

A-G Designation: F (or G if F has already been satisfied)

Prerequisite: Pass Floral Design 1 with a C or better


Floral Design 2 is a College Prep Course that satisfies Area F (Fine Arts) or Area G (Elective) in the UC A-G requirements, as well as Career Technical Education. This is the advanced floral design class that will continue to enhance the skills learned in Floral Design 1 and allow students to gain valuable workplace skills. Students will gain a deeper understanding of art, color schemes, design, and mechanical techniques used in the floral industry through hands-on advanced floral design skills. Students will utilize the elements of art and principles of design to create eye-appealing floral arrangements for several different occasions, including holidays, awards banquets, and wearable flowers. Students in Floral Design 2 will begin to design arrangements on their own, tackle more advanced designs such as curves and wearable florals, and be able to potentially earn certification in floral design. Students will have the opportunity to build their leadership skills through public speaking, resume and cover letter building, leadership position opportunities, conferences and conventions that highlight leadership, along with opportunities to go on field trips to colleges and agriculture industry companies through their involvement with the FFA Organization. Students enrolled in this course will be required to participate in FFA activities and a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project.
