Principal's Message

Welcome to West High School (WHS)! Our staff is excited to welcome students back to in-person instruction on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, to our Viking family! West High has a 56-year tradition of excellence, and we will continue the legacy of high expectations where all students are given the opportunity to participate and succeed. Our mission is “Believe, Achieve, Succeed,” and we are excited to support your child towards a path of success! During this year, we will continue to concentrate our efforts on helping our students think critically, problem-solve, and engage in college and career readiness skills. Viking PRIDE is the heart of our school culture, and I encourage you to discuss these important values with your child. Our Viking PRIDE tenets are designed to help your child understand the value of Participating in school, being Responsible, understanding and modeling Integrity, developing the Determination to succeed, and having Empathy for each other.

The COVID-19 situation has been unprecedented in its impact on our society and our school system.  For the fall of 2021, we will be in-person and following all safety guidelines. We recently received updated K-12 School Guidance from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).  At this time, all K-12 students are required to wear masks indoors and adults in K-12 settings are required to wear masks when sharing indoor spaces with students.   The guidance still has an isolation period in effect for staff and students, and we encourage students to stay home when they are not feeling well.  Thank you for following these important safety and health guidelines.

We trust that you will support our efforts in trying to provide a safe, academic, and supportive campus that will contribute to the best education your student can receive.  We hope that you will be actively involved in your child's education at West High School this year. In our efforts to help you stay involved in your student's education, we will continue to have our Parent and Family Center staff available each day.  The center is dedicated to offering parents beneficial resources to help with your child's education.  I invite each of you to become active members of our athletic booster club or band boosters, join our school site council, ELAC, or other parent advisory teams.

Please, remember that West High is a school filled with dedicated teachers, counselors, support staff, and administrators, all with a common goal to ensure every student has the opportunity and support to learn and succeed at high levels.  Our mission is “Believe, Achieve, Succeed” and we are excited to support your child towards a path of success!   Have a great Viking Day and remember that West is Best!

Sincerely,

Megan Gregor, Proud Principal
