About Us

Founded in 1965, West High School (WHS) is located at 1200 New Stine Road in Bakersfield, California, and is one of 19 comprehensive high schools in the Kern High School District (KHSD). Our campus features 77 classrooms, a library, a 600-seat auditorium, a 1,500-seat gymnasium, a portable wrestling room, and multiple student gathering spaces.

We serve a diverse student body of over 2,100 students, with demographics including 71% Hispanic, 15% African-American, 9% White, and 91% qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Our feeder schools include Curran, Sequoia, Thompson, and Actis Junior High Schools.

WHS is committed to student success, offering a wide range of academic and support programs such as:
