Video Production 1 CP

Video Production is a digital media arts course that lays the foundation of art using the designs and tools of digital imaging and digital video in all aspects of pre-production, production, and post-production. Students will examine and research historical origins and influences of film, digital video, and digital imaging through research papers, lectures, and labs. Digital media art students will apply their artistic practices and skills to individual as well as group projects. Some independent and group projects will target specific audiences within our community as well as West High School’s audience in various artistic forms: commercials, public service announcements, and advertising campaigns; videos pertaining to safety, school pride, event promotions, service learning, and community service. Digital media art students will incorporate the elements of art and principles of design in all student-created digital media projects. This is a dual enrollment course - Students can earn 3 college credits for Art B26 at BC.

Advanced Video Production CP

Duration: One Year

A-G Designation: F

Prerequisite: Video 1, or Photo 1, 2 with a B or higher and Instructor Approval.


In advanced video, students must be self-motivated and passionate about video production. They will expand their skills and experience from Video 1 to create advanced video projects. These will range from specialized projects for West High as well as for our local community. Students will complete projects for various film competitions and contests. The second semester will provide opportunities for students to specialize in film roles (producer, director, camera operator, cinematographer, etc.) and make short films. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills are required.
